I Never Thought I’d Be That Person

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one in the gathering apron wearing the big sun hat.

The one with the old leather gloves on their hands and the mud on their boots.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one that awaits the weekly farmers market and the local plant sales.

The one who prizes fresh above the rest.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one with dirt under their fingernails and paint on their rings.

The one that sees productivity as the mantra of life.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one who loves their home more than vacation.

The one that turns down social occasions scheduled during feed time.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one that talks to many friends daily who just happen to be animals.

The one who set their roots down deep in rich soil.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one with the life that others don’t understand.

The one who sees society’s path and diverges.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one who adores and respects their spouse for all their strengths and faults.

The one in the relationship others compare themselves to.

I never thought I’d be that person.

The one with God in the their morning, noon and night.

The one who treasures life.

I never thought I’d be that person.

But then again, I did.
